Advice about the best food, entertainment and drinks!
The time has come again to don the lederhosen, get our your best tankards and head out on the town. Oktoberfest has come again!
It may not be the most spiritual of celebrations but it is one of the most fun and sociable.
For those of you who don’t know, Oktoberfest is a German festival celebrated in the autumn. It started in 1810 as a wedding celebration, it is now a weeklong party of food and drink to celebrate the end of summer. There are no lengthy ceremonies or too many unusual traditions. It’s just a great opportunity for friends and family to come together and have a bit of a party.
Just so you know Oktoberfest does not officially begin until someone announces “O’ zapft is!” or “it’s tapped” in English! So here are our top recommendations of where to have a fun filled few days in Dubai!
The Sheraton on JBR
If you are looking for a fantastic location and an authentic experience, then head over to the Sheraton Hotel on JBR. Everyone is here to have a good time and get in the spirit, it is great to see people drinking together dressed up in traditional Oktoberfest garb.
The entertainment is always on point with an authentic German band, a wide selection of food, from sausages to sauerkraut and plenty of good Deutsche beer to choose from.
Everyone knows that if you want a consistently fun evening then Barasti is the place to go. They really know what they are doing. This holds true for Oktoberfest and is one of the more cheap and cheerful options. Long tables with red and white cloths (adding to the general festivity vibe). Plus a buffet of good wholesome German fare are supplied. The bars are plenty and eager to serve as ever.
Once you have scoffed down as much sausage and potatoes as you can handle, wander over to the dance floor for some entertaining live music.
The Dome, Dubai Sports City
If a massive party is what you are looking for then The Dome is for you. One of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations in Dubai, The Dome has something for everyone. Great food, traditional German beers on tap and fantastic musical acts all in an authentically decorated and (very importantly) air conditioned venue.
With support from the German embassy and a well thought out selection of food we recommend the Dome for a night out with your friends.
The Grand Hyatt Dubai
The Grand Hyatt is famous for a super traditional version of Oktoberfest. They have made sure that the focus is on great food and tasty beer. Instead of the generic beer options that can sometimes be on offer the Grand Hyatt has gone out of its way to source a selection of unique and truly German hops.
Once your bellies are full with top quality sausages and you have you cold Stein in hand then dance the night away in front of a specially flown in German band. Make sure the ladies are wearing their dancing shoes and dirndls and then men have their Lederhosen freshly pressed.
JW Marriott Dubai
Celebrate Oktoberfest in style in the Hofbräuhaus at the JW Marriott. With a fine selection of Bratwurst and beers this bar really knows its stuff. With an already proven track record of serving superb German food throughout the rest of the year they really pull out all of the stops for this fun filled weekend.
They have even flown in a celebrity German chef to make sure that their food is top standard. With the choice between a la carte menus or buffet options this is the perfect replacement to the usual Friday brunch. So head over to this fantastic venue for a day/night you will never forget.
So, are you ready!…Eins, zwei, drei….O’ zapft is!!!
