Cheese and Wine on Wednesdays at Jones the Grocer

Did you know that Australian chain Jones the Grocer at the Dusit Thani Hotel is open 24hrs a day? AND that they’re licensed? Now that you do know, we’d like to share everything we know about their great cheese and wine night every Wednesday.

The Lowdown

Get all you can eat cheese and house wine, with a selection of the best beef cold cuts. On top of that, an endless selection of fresh baked breads, crackers and pâtes are served. The chefs have gone out of their way to ensure that the perfect selection of cheese is available. Every week they showcase a new board of cheeses, keeping regular guests on their toes and excited to try something new. Your wine glass simply never goes dry, with the wait staff serving their selected grape with specific cheeses to maximize your already wonderful experience. Or if you prefer hops, they serve Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Peroni on tap. They are also serve Stella Cidre, which I haven’t seen around here before.

The Cheeses

I had five cheese served to me, namely Truffle Gouda, Truffle Brie, Chabi Chou, Roquefort and a french hard cheese called Ossau. The latter was by far my favourite. It paired perfecly with the Oxfords Merlot, as well as the sweet and spicy jam on the table. Both truffle cheeses were as earthy as expected and worked well with the cold cuts selection.

In addition to the endless food and wine, there is live music. And once you’re done at Jones, you can sneak off to their sister company, Nippon Bottle Co across the way for a selection of complimentary cocktails as Wednesday happens to be their Ladies Night.

The night is excellent value for money at 199 DHS. Its the perfect evening for a gathering of friends, or for an intimate but different date night with someone special. We know where we’ll be next Wednesday.
